Last weekend, NUTIP members participated in an insightful excursion to Jinja, gaining a valuable perspective on Uganda’s evolving aquaculture and agribusiness landscape.

The program featured visits to Yalelo Uganda and De Heus Animal Nutrition Uganda, where members were warmly received and guided through detailed presentations and facility tours.

At Yalelo, participants explored the hatchery, fish farms, and factory, witnessing production systems tailored to both large-scale consumers and small-scale markets. The high standards of hygiene, quality assurance, and efficiency across operations were truly impressive.

At De Heus Uganda, members learned about the company’s growth journey and long-term commitment to Uganda’s agricultural sector. A guided tour of the factory showcased feed production processes, quality standards, and operational excellence. The session concluded with a vibrant networking engagement, fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening partnerships.

Co-existence & Complementarity
The excursion highlighted how Yalelo and De Heus operate in synergy, Yalelo driving innovation in fish farming, while De Heus provides the critical feed solutions that sustain and scale aquaculture operations. Together, they demonstrate the strength of Dutch investment in Uganda and the importance of integrated value chains that fuel sustainable growth.

This experience underscored not only the sector’s future potential but also the importance of viewing Africa as an interconnected economic space with vast cross-border opportunities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Eric de Vaan, Leonard de Mol van OtterlooBon Tjeenk Willink, and their teams for their exceptional hospitality and in-depth insights.
