Last week, the Netherlands Uganda Trade and Investment Platform ( NUTIP), together with the other chambers British Chamber of Commerce Uganda , French Chamber of Commerce Uganda – FCCU and AmCham Uganda convened a stakeholder engagement at Sheraton Kampala Hotel to discuss key tax policy and compliance issues affecting the private sector.

The interactive discussion addressed several important areas:
Withholding Tax Exemptions: Existing beneficiaries do not need to reapply, and URA is conducting internal reviews.
Withholding Tax on Imports: The 6% deducted at importation is treated as a tax credit for the importer.
UGX 1 Billion Threshold: Businesses raised concerns about the threshold, with URA committing to present the proposals to management.
NIN-Based TIN Transition: URA provided guidance on the phased transition towards using National Identification Numbers as individual TINs.
The engagement provided an important platform for businesses to seek clarification, raise practical concerns, and contribute to discussions on tax administration and policy.

NUTIP appreciates URA’s openness to continued dialogue and the collaboration among the Chambers in strengthening public-private engagement towards a more predictable, transparent and business-friendly environment that promotes trade and investment between the Netherlands and Uganda.
