This is through promotion of sustainable practice and shared value amongst the communities in which we operate. This has been done through partnership with our downstream farmers in our shared Value Programme where we empower organized coffee societies through provision of necessary quality support logistics for increased quality harvest while at the same time supporting alternate local income generation projects for improved sustainability. Organised societies such as Kabeywa Farmers Group are currently benefiting from our shared Value Programme.
Through the community based shared Value Programme, Star Café Ltd maintains effective control over its supply chain, a key requirement to demonstration of quality assurance to the ever demanding consumer market.
We source our produce ethically and have direct partnerships with coffee growers in Mt Elgon Kapchorwa, Kasese, Ibanda and Kanungu. One such direct partnership is with the Kabeywa United Coffee farmers Association (KUCOFA) in Mt. Elgon. For the past 4 years, we have been working with this progressive community of 600 coffee growers that populate the highlands region of Mt. Elgon. KUCOFA particularly supports the involvement of women in society and the economy so this relationship ensures that the women and youth are involved in coffee growing so that we can create sustainable value chains ensuring that the women and youth can enjoy better income and a brighter future for themselves and their families.
