In late 2017, Tommie and Ludivine (now Advisor) traveled through Uganda talking to over 100 farmers to uncover the sustainability challenges these farmers faced.
They discovered that poultry farmers are no longer able to access fishmeal, their primary source of poultry feed. This is due to overfishing in Lake Victoria which has led to reduced availability, high cost and low quality of fishmeal.
Because of this, farmers are not able to sustain a profitable business and meet the rising demand for high quality protein. This is when the idea of ProTeen was born.
Proteen is the first industrial black soldier fly production company in Kampala and it is rapidly scaling.
Join us on our mission to accelerate the decentralization of black soldier fly production across the world!
