We were proud to represent NUTIP_ Kampala alongside our partners during a high-impact morning of discussions focused on Uganda’s FY 2025/26 national budget, tax reforms, and ESG priorities.
🔹 Key Highlights from the URA Fireside Chat
Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) is adopting a fully digital and proactive compliance model in 2025:
✅ Mandatory use of EFRIS for all sales
✅ Timely filing of all tax returns
✅ Accurate and updated record keeping
✅ Engage URA for clarity when in doubt
✅ Early compliance to avoid penalties
🆕 Startups established after July 1, 2025, may be eligible for a three-year income tax exemption pending clarity on the definition of “investment capital.”
📌 Enhanced enforcement will rely on EFRIS, Digital Tax Stamps, and reduced VAT exemptions.
🔹 Tax Proposals Presented by Grant Thornton (Uganda) a NUTIP member:
Income Tax: Rollover relief for restructuring; new withholding tax on digital services
VAT: Removal of select exemptions (e.g., billets); updates on solar and biomass classifications.
Excise Duty: Increased rates on plastics, juices, and beer; new levies on bran and construction materials.
Tax Procedure Code (TPC): Use of NINs/BRNs as TINs; waiver of penalties if principal tax is paid by June 2026.
🔹 Environmental & Social Governance (ESG) Outlook
